Inter Miami Identify Kai Wagner as Potential Replacement for Jordi Alba
Inter Miami have identified Kai Wagner as a potential replacement for Jordi Alba, according to @SkySportDE and @Plettigoal. The Philadelphia Union left-back, recently voted the best in MLS, is reportedly on the club’s shortlist, with talks expected after the season concludes.
Wagner, one of MLS’s most consistent defenders, has been instrumental in Philadelphia Union’s recent success, contributing 10 assists and 2 goals this season. His current contract runs until December 31, 2026.
Inter Miami’s Left-Back Plans Post-Jordi Alba
The report comes at a crucial time for Inter Miami as veteran stars Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets prepare to depart, freeing up two Designated Player (DP) slots ahead of the 2026 campaign.
One of those DP spots is reportedly reserved for Rodrigo De Paul, while the other could be used for a big-ticket signing — possibly in defense. With Wagner under contract through 2026, a transfer would likely involve a significant negotiation between the two MLS clubs.
This move reflects Miami’s intent to refresh its backline and plan for the post-Alba era while continuing to build a competitive squad around the potential MVP Lionel Messi.
Sergio Reguilón Also in Talks
In a related development, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter Miami are in advanced negotiations to sign Spanish full-back Sergio Reguilón.
Talks are said to be progressing quickly for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender to join on a free transfer after leaving Spurs in July.
Despite receiving lucrative offers — including a reported €4M-per-season deal from Iran’s Persepolis and multiple proposals from La Liga — Reguilón has made it clear he only wants Inter Miami.
Sources close to the club indicate that while discussions are ongoing, Reguilón will not occupy a DP slot, since he would arrive as a free agent under a standard contract.
The Fans React
The buzz around Miami’s defensive overhaul has created major excitement among fans.
