Frustrated midfielder opens up on fight for minutes, confirms Callender’s exit — Inter Miami News exclusive
Inter Miami midfielder Benjamín Cremaschi is once again in the news as he delivered one of his most candid interviews yet, addressing his struggles for playing time, the emotional departure of teammates Drake Callender and Federico Redondo, and the mental toll of constant positional changes.
“I’m Frustrated. I Want to Play.”
In a rare show of frustration, Cremaschi admitted he’s finding it hard to cope with limited minutes in recent matches.
“I’m frustrated. I want to play. The most important thing for me is to be at a very high level, and to get there I need minutes and experience. I’ve played very little in recent games, and I don’t think it’s because of my level. I feel good and imagine it’s for other reasons — but I’m going to keep trying.”
The 20-year-old acknowledged the challenge of being shifted into different positions but vowed to keep giving his all whenever called upon.
“This year we also had several injuries, various suspensions. That’s why there are many positions. But getting ready for my position is impossible. I think that I’ll be here then end up on another side. What am I gonna do? The only thing I’m going to do is give my best when I get into that position and listen to the coach’s instructions. But mentally it can be hard sometimes.”
Farewell to Drake Callender
Cremaschi also confirmed goalkeeper Drake Callender’s exit, offering heartfelt praise for his now-former teammate.
“Drake was always a great teammate for me. He was there when I first joined the first team, so I’m grateful to him and wish him the best in this new stage. I know this year was tough for him with injuries and the surgery he had to undergo; hopefully, he’ll be back on the field soon.”
Best Wishes for Federico Redondo
The midfielder spoke warmly about Federico Redondo, who is set for a new challenge in Spain.
“With Fede, we’ve always had a great relationship. We have a fantastic group, and he’s someone who always wanted to bring people together. I also have to thank him for the moments he gave us at the club and wish him the best. I think he’ll do really well in Spain — it’s a top league and a great challenge for him, and we’ll be supporting him from here.”
Looking Ahead
Cremaschi’s comments highlight both his hunger for more opportunities and the emotional transitions happening inside the Inter Miami locker room. With key departures and shifting roles, the coming weeks will test his mental resilience — but his determination to make an impact remains clear.
